“ Sleeping in the Gateway" is part of an ongoing project of research and text&audio dialog with my computer via a machine learning language model called GPT-2 (for corpus modeling and text generation) and a Python library called Magenta Tensorflow (for midi generation). Each of these songs was partially generated by an "AI", then re-composed, arranged, and produced by me. This is the beginning of a longer conversation about and showcase of what a basic understanding of some simple machine learning tools can bring to human creative output (or what humans can bring to the current generation of simple AI output). I want to stress more than anything though, that I love these songs and that, while I was skeptical at first, I can now confidently report that this human/AI partnership experiment resulted in emotionally fulfilling and creatively satisfying art that I am closely connected to and that I feel expresses my point of view. These songs are not my creations alone, but I love them.
